Steel trench combat knife from the period of World War I by Carl Eickhorn.

The blade is in excellent condition and has never been sharpened. The early maker’s mark is present on the ricasso — two squirrels sitting back to back with a vertical sword between them, and the initials “CE” below, representing Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. This early trademark was used by the company in the late Imperial period.

The handle has nickel-plated metal fittings and is fitted with checkered grip plates made of horn. The plates are in excellent condition, showing a fine diamond checkering pattern and are secured with rivets. The grips show a beautiful natural patina consistent with age.

The scabbard is in excellent condition with its original black painted finish. Most of the paint has been preserved. It includes the original leather belt loop for attachment.

An excellent and authentic piece for any World War I edged weapons collection. This knife was most likely intended for officer use.
