This commemorative award plaque is mounted on a marble base and dates to the period of the Third Reich. It features a metal eagle emblem with period symbolism, mounted above an engraved metal inscription plate.

The plaque commemorates an athletic achievement, as indicated by the inscription:

“Bruststaffel f. Männer 4 × 200 m V.o.W.

Deutsche Meisterschaft 1939 – 3. Sieger

Hamburg”

This translates to a men’s 4 × 200 meter relay event, awarded for 3rd place in the German Championship (1939) held in Hamburg.

Such plaques were awarded for sporting achievements within the organized athletic system of Germany at the time, recognizing competitive performance at a national level.

The marble base shows attractive natural veining and retains its original structure. The metal eagle and plaque have developed a pleasing age-related patina. The inscription remains clear and legible.

The reverse side shows the original mounting setup with a central fixing point and aged backing material.

Condition is good overall, with typical signs of age such as minor surface wear and small imperfections to the marble base. A solid and authentic historical sports award from the late 1930s.

German Sports Association (NSRL) Award.
