This is a long Heer (Army) bayonet, made by the rare and seldom-seen manufacturer Gustav Spitzer, Solingen. The hilt is in excellent condition with bright nickel plating, showing only minor signs of age. The mortise button and blade release function perfectly. The rifle slot retains its original red felt insert. The grip plates are black checkered, in perfect condition, secured by nickel-plated steel rivets with dressed heads on the obverse.
The blade is finely nickel-plated, bright throughout, and virtually in mint condition. The obverse is plain, of wide fuller construction. The reverse ricasso bears the maker’s mark: a lion with Solingen inscribed below. The original brown leather blade washer remains intact.
The scabbard is straight along its full length and retains outstanding original paint. Attached is a black leather frog. Of special interest is the rear metal plate of the frog, marked DRP (Deutsches Reich Patent), highlighting the originality and patented design of this piece.
An excellent and extremely rare example for any collection, remaining in very good overall condition.
