A rare German officer’s saber from the Wehrmacht period, featuring rich artistic etching on the blade. The complete set is in exceptionally fine condition.
The blade is curved, steel, and in near-perfect condition — free of stains, corrosion, or pitting. The surface is bright, with deep, crisp etching. The point is straight, without chips or nicks, and the geometry of the blade is fully preserved. Beneath the guard is the maker’s mark: a circle containing the three letters WMW and a sword in the center, clearly visible and well preserved, indicating it was manufactured by Waffenfabrik Max Weyersberg, Solingen, Germany.
The etching is executed in the classic Wehrmacht style and is very expressive. On one side is an eagle with folded wings, and on the other, an eagle with widely spread wings holding a wreath with a swastika. The blade also features a composition with a helmet and crossed rifles. Artillerymen on horseback with sabers are depicted — a dynamic scene emphasizing the piece’s artillery association. The blade bears the inscription “18th Artillery Regiment,” giving the saber a personalized and historically significant character.
The hilt is crafted in the traditional style with a prominent lion’s head. The eyes are set with red stones resembling rubies, fully intact, adding a striking and noble appearance. The grip is free from damage, without cracks or looseness. The guard is straight and undamaged. A portepee is attached to the guard and remains in excellent condition, without tears or damage.
The scabbard is free of dents or repairs, with correct geometry. The original finish is nearly completely preserved, even and well maintained.
The set includes a brown fabric carrying bag made of durable material. The top features a drawstring closure, and the bottom is reinforced with leather to protect the fabric from the blade. The bag is intact, without tears, neat, and well preserved.
This complete set, with its detailed etching, regimental inscription, and clearly marked manufacturer, is extremely rare in this condition and represents a highly valuable piece for collectors.
