Rare German HJ-type scout knife manufactured before 1933 by Hartkopf & Co, Solingen. This model is considered an early scout knife and one of the prototypes of the later Hitler Youth knife. Knives of this type became the basis for the famous HJ knife, including the characteristic leather belt hanger later used on Hitler Youth knives as well.
This knife is featured in Christian Méry’s book “Couteaux et poignards-baïonnettes dans l'armée allemande (1914–1945)”, where it is identified as a “Couteau de type H. J.” The book notes its characteristic wide blade with a pronounced false edge.
The blade remains in excellent condition and retains a clearly visible “Hartkopf & Co Solingen” maker’s mark. The grip retains its original handle scales. The knife comes complete with its original leather scabbard and original leather belt hanger.
An exceptionally rare collector’s piece in very well-preserved condition. A superb addition to any collection of German edged weapons and a true highlight for collectors of early scout and HJ-type knives.
