This is an elegant sword manufactured by SMF from the city of Solingen — the legendary “City of Blades” in western Germany. At the base of the blade is the maker’s mark, depicting a knight holding a sword, with the inscription “SMF Solingen.” Just above the mark is the acceptance stamp — the number “5” beneath an eagle. The 26-inch blade retains its high-quality mirror nickel finish across nearly the entire surface and is in excellent, virtually pristine condition. The cutting edge is free of chips or nicks, and the blade surface shows no noticeable defects. Overall, the condition of the blade is exceptional for a piece of this period. The metal fittings of the hilt have not been cleaned since the war and display an even, dark patina over the silver-plated surfaces. The pommel has crisp, well-preserved edges, and the oak leaves on the sides are in excellent condition. The downward-sloping three-tier crossguard is carved with feather-like lines, and the edges remain sharp and well-defined. The grip is made of carved wood covered in blue Moroccan leather. The leather is in virtually perfect condition — free of damage, cracks, or noticeable scratches — with the original grain fully preserved. The grip is wrapped in silver-plated wire, which is also excellently preserved. The leather-covered metal scabbard is straight and in outstanding condition. The leather shows no damage and almost no scratches. The upper and lower mounts, darkly patinated, are in excellent condition, and all flush-mounted, headless screws are present. The sword comes with its original cloth storage bag (storage bag) with a drawstring closure. The bag features a leather-reinforced tip at the bottom, characteristic of original examples. The bag is intact but shows minor moth damage.

An exceptionally well-preserved Luftwaffe sword in collectible condition, having stood the test of time with flying colors.
