A near-mint condition Army sabre by E.&F. Hörster — a rare and desirable example. These lion head swords don’t appear very often. They all tend to share the same guard design, though backstraps may vary. This particular piece features aluminum construction with original gold gilt finish.
The grip is made of wood, wrapped in celluloid, and adorned with a beautiful double-strand twisted wire. The red glass eyes are intact and in excellent condition. The nickel-plated steel blade is in ideal shape — no rust or lifting — and is stamped with the Hörster logo, partially visible beneath the hilt eagle.
The scabbard retains its original black paint, with no dents and only minor signs of age or oxidation.
Overall, this is an excellent, untouched example — a very interesting and highly desirable sabre for any edged weapon collection.
