Original Japanese officer’s sword Shin-guntō Type 98 (九八式軍刀) from the World War II period.
Features and Condition
The blade is in good condition, no chips or cracks.
Tang (nakago) bears the smith’s signature: 「濃州住兼房作」 (Nōshū jū Kanefusa saku) — “Made by Kanefusa, resident of Nōshū (Mino, modern Gifu).” The Kanefusa line was one of the most renowned swordsmith families in Seki, actively producing blades for the military.
Fittings are complete and original:
authentic tsuba (guard),
seppa (spacers),
all parts, including the tsuka (handle), are marked with the number 2 (except the tsuba, which has no number), confirming the original matching set.
Missing only the wooden retaining peg mekugi (目釘) that secures the handle to the tang.
This sword is fully authentic and represents great interest for collectors of militaria and Japanese edged weapons. An original World War II complete set, a rare item in very good condition.
