Iron Cross 2nd Class by Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid. Three-piece construction with a non-magnetic core. Maker marked with Deumer’s PK code “3” in the ring.
The cross is preserved in very good to excellent condition, featuring a beautifully polished frame and an almost completely preserved black core.
The cross comes with an original small cardboard postal box bearing handwritten ink inscriptions on the lid. Boxes of this type were used for mailing awards to their recipients or family members, for example when a serviceman was away from home or when the award was sent by post for other circumstances. The inscriptions have become partially blurred and illegible, most likely due to moisture exposure, making it impossible to read them completely today.
