A rare wall plaque depicting President Paul von Hindenburg, designed by the renowned German sculptor Walther Wolff in 1935.
The plaque is in excellent collectible condition, free of any damage. It retains its original cast suspension loop at the top, allowing it to be displayed on a wall.
Signed on the front: "W. Wolff 35".
The reverse bears the inscription "Gesetzlich Geschützt" ("Protected by Law"), as well as the "LH" marking in the lower right corner. The exact meaning of these initials has not been conclusively identified, although they are also found on other original Walther Wolff plaques from the same period.
The plaque was cast by Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik AG (WMF).
The relief bears the inscription:
"Nimmer wird das Reich vergeben, wenn ihr einig seid und treu"
which translates as:
"Never will the Empire perish if you remain united and loyal."
This quotation is based on the closing lines of the patriotic poem "Frühlingsgruss an das Vaterland" ("Spring Greetings to the Fatherland") by the German poet Max von Schenkendorf (1783–1817), written during the Wars of Liberation against Napoleon.
Walther Wolff created three of the best-known portrait reliefs of the period: Hitler (1933), Hindenburg (1935), and Göring (1935). They were produced in limited numbers and cast by WMF and several other German foundries. After 1945, many of these plaques were destroyed, making surviving original examples increasingly scarce today.
An outstanding historical collectible and an excellent addition to any collection of German historical reliefs or Third Reich memorabilia.
