Heer Army Officer’s Dagger by Gustav Spitzer, Solingen
This is an outstanding and exceptionally attractive example of a Heer Army Officer’s Dagger. The dagger was manufactured by Gustav Spitzer, Solingen, a maker that is extremely rarely encountered among Heer Army Officer’s Daggers.
The blade is in fantastic condition, retaining its gorgeous original luster. The maker’s mark is applied to the ricasso in the form of a lion within a circle, with the inscription “Gustav Spitzer Solingen” surrounding it.
The handle of this exceptionally attractive dagger is stunning. The fittings have a beautiful old patina, with some areas displaying pleasant pastel rainbow toning. All of the original details remain beautifully preserved.
The grip is an appealing orange-yellow shade, with no chips, cracks, or damage.
The dagger is complete with its original scabbard. The scabbard is nice and straight, with a well-preserved finish and a patina that perfectly complements the handle.
Of particular interest is the combination of the extremely rare Gustav Spitzer maker and the outstanding condition of the dagger itself. Examples by this maker are encountered only very rarely, and finding one in such excellent condition is an even greater rarity.
