Cased Silver Merit Medal of the Order of the German Eagle
Original Verdienstmedaille des Ordens vom Deutschen Adler (Merit Medal of the Order of the German Eagle), Third Reich period. Struck in silver, edge marked "835 PR. MÜNZE BERLIN", indicating 835/1000 silver content and production by the Prussian State Mint in Berlin.
The medal features a Maltese-style cross with national socialist eagles and swastikas between the arms. It is suspended from the correct red ribbon with black and white edge stripes. Housed in its original red presentation case, featuring the gold national eagle with swastika on the lid. Inside the lid is the gold-embossed inscription "Deutsche Verdienstmedaille".
Condition: Very good, with signs of age but no major damage. Original ribbon intact. The case is in excellent condition, with only minor edge wear.
Historical Note:
The Order of the German Eagle was instituted in 1937 as a diplomatic award, originally for foreign nationals who rendered services to the German Reich. Later, it was also awarded to German citizens for distinguished service.
Rarity:
